I swear, we are always changing something in our house... never happy with the way it is. I have seen some wood stairs in my designer mags with their risers painted white. I personally have never liked all wood (like it is now) and I think we should paint them white. We put white paper on all of the risers to see if we like it.
The above photo has 2/3 of the stairs done... what do you think?
Paint them white or keep them brown??
The photo below has all the risers done in white to give you a better idea.
Any input is welcomed!!

I like the white. I think it looks crisp, clean and modern. I find too much wood a bit old-fashioned. We have a set of stairs that was once carpeted. The previous owners ripped the carpet off and painted the stairs burgundy with white risers. The burgundy matched the disgusting blinds that were once hanging from the living and dining room windows. Anyhow...because the stairs were carpeted originally, the edges are raw. They were never "finished," so we have to be careful coming down the stairs in bare feet to avoid scratching the s%^t out of our heels!! Yes, this has happened more than once and yes, over the same wound. OW! We are still trying to decide what colour to paint them and if we should put a carpet runner down as well.
Your kids are gorgeous! Isn't it going to be great to have Ethan in the 'saucer! I remember how liberating it was once Marin was old enough to sit in it and snack on O's!! And I'm free, to do what I want, any old time....
I vote for the white...it definitely brightens the stairs up...pardon the pun!!
Cute kids! I remember the "freedom" of saucer time! It was liberating.
Your Ethan is just so darn cute, already in a saucer, wow.
I like the white stairs, gives them more of a funky look, the all wood is too staid.
I still have the marks from Beans' stairs, some sandpapering and then paint is in order! How Marin manages on her hands and knees is beyond me, she doesn't seem to get scraped!
Good luck with the decision!
White is much better for us "old folks" to better see the stairs when getting home after the bar closes! Also, especially helpful if the stairs lead to a bathroom!
I like the paper. Rather than having to repaint when they get marked up you just change the paper.

I also vote for the white paper....painting means work.....work bad!!!
